For the first time, the mid size cab choice comes with a center side pillar and four conventionally opening doors. A full size pickup is nothing if not big, tough, and assertive. The new Silverado takes that theme to the extreme with blockier styling cues, straighter lines, and sharper edges. Front impact airbags for the driver and passenger have been designed to protect the head during a frontal crash, side impact airbags for the front seats have been designed to protect the torso during a side impact collision, overhead airbags are used to protect the occupant's heads in the event of a side collision or rollover, seatbelt pretensioners automatically tighten seatbelts to place the occupant in the optimal seating position during a collision. The vehicle is equipped with an ignition disable device that will prevent the engine from starting if the correct original manufacturer key is not used. Leather wrap steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, a wide center console and pocket riddled door panels offer a place for everything. MyLink, Chevy’s infotainment system, is easy to navigate via the 8.0-inch touch screen and there are substantial knobs for volume, radio tuning, temperature, fan speed and back up camera. It seems like there are as many USB ports as there are cupholders in this rig. Flip up one panel in the large center bin and you’ll find three USB power points. Open up the center console and you’ll find two more. This is a great feature for its ability to power multiple phones and music devices, heated leather interior. The Z71 features upgraded Rancho shocks, front tow hooks, an added transfer case skid plate and 18-inch wheels, brand new Goodyear tires. Other features include unique Z71 graphics on the instrument cluster and corner of the bed sidewall, but the real upgrades in this package are the active locking differential and Hill Descent Control. The former helps improve traction on muddy, snowy and wet road surfaces, while the Descent Control is like Cruise control for the trail. Simply press a button in the center console, and it crawls the Silverado at a slow, controlled pace, modulating brake and throttle without the driver having to put his or her foot on the pedals. The Silverado has StabiliTrack stability control to keep you on the road in those emergency maneuver situations. For towing a large load safely, the Trailer Sway Control helps control braking coming into a turn and adding power coming out of a turn with a trailer. 6.5-foot bed length, the tailgate boasts an internal torsion bar and rotary damper that make opening and closing the unit less click slam bang and more click whoosh whiff. Fog lights, front tow hooks, rear bumper sports a step in each corner and a corresponding handhold in the side rail for easier bed entry, tow ratings are up too, 11,500.
